Contained in each content chapter is a section referred to as Major Themes in Global History. These sections focus on different major themes in global history. These Major Themes have a dual purpose. First, they provide students with a foundation for understanding some of the major themes explored in each chapter by providing a kind of background students may be lacking. Second, they provide the context into which the events in the chapter are unfolding. Your students will learn about geography when you read about the rise of river valley civilizations, religions when they investigate the emergence of religions and belief systems. Other essential themes covered in this book include: the Rise and Fall of Empires; Connections through Trade; Government; Pandemics; the Impact of Historical Events; Achievements of Ancient Civilizations; the Forces of Social Change; and Major Economic Systems.
